I love to make flowers for use in my artwork. Stampin' Up! offers many different supplies that can be used to create a wide variety in a multitude of mediums. There truly is something for everyone.
Although we are in the midst of winter, I feel safe posting spring-like images to share with you. Afterall, I live in Santa Barbara, where flowers can bloom all year round! And, to make this series even more interesting, I'm trying out a new-to-me 'technology' as well - video tutorials! Some of the flowers I will be creating will be a little more detailed than others, and I'm hoping that the videos will help my more visual learners.
I would like to start by sharing with you a new favorite - the Gerbera Daisy. The Daisies #2 Big Shot Die readily creates daisies without too much effort, and you have seen me use them many times in the past. However, to truly get the look of a Gerbera Daisy, I felt I needed to take it just a bit further. This is my effort to perfect that look. Enjoy the youtube video below and feel free to share what you like about it or what could be improved in the comments section of this post:
I thought I'd also share some information about the symbolic meaning of Gerbera Daisies. My research revealed that while the general family of Dasies represent innocence and purity, the Gerbera variety also represents cheerfulness due to the assortment of colors available. Who doesn't need a little cheerfulness in their life? I'll be adding these flowers to get well gifts, birthday projects, and thinking of you items to bring some cheerfulness into the lives of my friends and families.
And check back in a few days, I'll be providing a .pdf version of this tutorial for those of you who prefer to have directions in hand.
Happy Crafting,
Noel

Have fun Jamey!

Jamey, I hope this die is still available in NZ ... unfortunately it just retired in the states with our newest catalog. A real disappointment to me as I use it all the time!

Thank you thank you thank you for the inspiration! I made some for myself this morning (a great way to spend my day off!)... I have them on a photo tree that I have in my living room (where I hang my Christmas cards in the winter)....

Great video! I love these daisies, but haven't come up with a good center for them yet. I think I'd really like what you did if I could see them better. I agree with adding just a bit more light where you're working. Thanks so much for doing this video. I haven't seen those brads, but I'm thinking I might could do the same with a circle punch of CS. Gonna give it a whirl and see.

So happy to learn how to make paper Gerberas. They're my favorite flowers. Now I can make some everytime I want flowers! And cheaper to make them VS buying them! Hourray!

Love these daisies! Unfortunately, your light source is not good. Everything is in shadows. Thanks for sharing, though. I got the idea and can't wait to try them!

Thank you so much for sharing your gerbera daisy talents with us! I appreciate the informative video! Easy to follow. I'm confident that I can make these now! It was difficult to see what was happening when you were embossing the brad. Tilt just a little toward your light source and we can see better. Thanks!
