It's time for a handmade gift idea! If you are following along with my National Scrapbooking Month Celebration, you know that I promised to use my 'simple journaling' ideas on other paper crafts as well. Yesterday I posted a layout using a poem as journaling (see here), but this technique readily translates into a handmade gift. And, in honor of Mother's Day, I am going to show you how to use my favorite parenting poem for a simple nursery item that any new mother would treasure as a gift!
The poem on this piece is called Babies Don't Keep. I love this poem as it reminds me that those early months (even years) of caring for a child quickly pass and that I need to hold onto every moment! And, one of the great things about paper crafting, and crafts in general, is that a technique or idea intended for one project can readily be duplicated for another. I could easily translate this same layout onto a scrapbook page and let the poem serve as my journaling. And this poem would be lovely printed on a card for a new mom. So, when you see a technique, card, scrapbook or project that you enjoy, regardless of the type of art you create, you should be able to include the ideas in your own art as well!
Also, although this technique would work well framed, I have chosen to just put it on a simple plaque. This is an upcycle craft project as the plaque used was a generic item with a simple flat art piece on the front that I had outgrown. The white paint around the edge worked perfectly for my project, so I only had to glue my art right on top of the existing art without any additional work.
These flowers were made over a year ago with the 5 Petal Flower punch, Crystal Effects and a Basic Pearl (actually with a brad originally, I just glued the pearl on top of the brad for this project!). They've been sitting in a box in my craft room just waiting for the right project. The patterned paper is from Green House Gala.

Happy Crafting and Happy Mother's Day,
Noel

Aww. I'm not fond of scrap booking but I feel amaze with all your creative ideas especially this. It's just sweet. I'm not good at writing too, so I'm gonna start thinking of the poem for my mom and apply this pretty little present. Thank you so much.
