I love to spend time with my children stamping and crafting. They embrace their art with abandon and enjoy the process without any hesitation. As part of my Mother's Day plans yesterday, I spent a little one on one time with each of my three children - doing whatever was appropriate to the individual child to give us time together laughing, talking and sharing. With my 9 year old, crafting was the perfect activity. Unfortunately, I do not have any photos on hand as I was too immersed in the time with my daughter!
With my National Scrapbooking Month Celebration in mind, I took a cheap photo book we had on hand from a party she had attended, printed out some photos, and let her go to town ... I was merely the 'sous chef' of the craftroom, helping her find the supplies she needed and providing her with assistance as she needed it.
If you enjoy crafting, why not share that activity with your children, grandchildren, nieces, nephews, or young friends. It is a great way to get to know that special little person in your life and to pull in his/her friends too! I think you will treasure these moments as much as I do. Also, as a parent, I love getting to know my childrens' friends directly. Crafting with my daughter and a small group of her peers is always an informative moment! While Stampin' Up! offers many 'child friendly' images (ie. cute little animals or other fun images) for stamping, I find my daughter enjoys using all of my stamps and supplies and the more advanced the tools the better!
Looking for a place to get started? Stampin' Up! Simply Scrappin' kits are a great place to start - they include coordinating solid cardstock, designer series paper, and self-adhesive die cuts that can work together for scrapbooking OR cardmaking. And since each piece coordinates it is hard for even young children to go astray! Shop now and plan your own special time with a creative child in your life.
Happy Crafting,
Noel

If she doesn't seem excited about crafting, I suggest pulling out at least one tool or supply that you think is a bit 'too difficult' for her ... hesitate as you take it out, and let her know that you aren't certain it is appropriate for her age ... then set ground rules and go to town! Heat embossing with some of Clara's friends for watercolor techniques has been a big hit - but does take a lot more monitoring on my part, and a versamark pad especially for kids!

We have an 8 year old girl who comes to visit us a few times a month. She is usually glued to her hand held video game or demanding a certain cartoon or program be put on television for her to watch like zombie. While, I don't have the patience to sit and haver her make an album, I might be able to get her to sit down some times(and get her Dad to help with this) and make a few cards or a picture though. A much healthier activity than the constant video game or tv viewing. Thanks for the inspiration and the encouragement.
